A few years ago, at a food bloggers conference, I met two women who opened up my eyes to a part of the world I didn’t know. Yvonne Maffei and Amanda Mouttaki have become friends since then and their blogs, Yvonne’s My Halal Kitchen, and Amanda’s Maroc Mama are among my favorite online places to go for inspiration, good stories, and a new perspective on food and life.
This morning, I opened up the paper to discover a fascinating article about Saffron Road, a company whose story and products they introduced to me. Since that introduction, I’ve continued to use Saffron Road sauces, so I guess that you could say I am the example of how their marketing works, spreading out from the Muslim community to others who value tasty products made with good ingredients.
I post this not as a commercial for a company (frankly, I once approached Saffron Foods about sponsoring a post and their representative was not interested at that time.) Rather, I write to thank my two friends for opening my eyes up to a part of the world (the Muslim community) I knew little about. Looking beyond one’s own “borders” yields rewards that one can hardly imagine.
