Glazed Cinnamon Rolls

Updated on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 4:33PM by Registered Commentermotherwouldknow

I’m on another baking adventure, this time with the Avid Bakers Challenge/ABC group. We’re baking monthly, using recipes from The Weekend Baker by Abby Dodge.  By coincidence, Abby is the sponsor of the #baketogether group.  There is no connection between the two groups.  In keeping with my general philosophy on baked goods and baking – that you can never have enough of them - instead of choosing between the groups, I decided to join both.

This month’s ABC recipe is Glazed Cinnamon Rolls.  I've loved cinnamon rolls ever since I was a kid, but have never made them from scratch.  Growing up we had the ready-bake kind in the refrigerated tube.  Not exactly gourmet, but they did leave an indelible sense memory of sweet smells as I came downstairs on weekend mornings.  I’m writing this post as my newly-baked cinnamon rolls are cooling on a rack next to me.  Although the aroma is transporting me back (and driving me crazy with the desire to wolf down 1 or 2 rolls right now), I'll try to stay focused on the baking process.

Guacamole for Super Bowl Sunday or Any Other Day

Updated on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:02AM by Registered Commentermotherwouldknow

My husband Kevin met our friends Carole and Mark when the three of them attended a class together.  Although they didn’t have much in common professionally or in terms of background, they agreed that the refreshments offered at class breaks were not up to par.  Kevin started to bring better cookies to share and a friendship flourished.  Over a decade later, we’re still bonding over food.  The four of us do talk about other subjects, we celebrate holidays and other occasions and enjoy each other’s families.  But it’s a rare get together that isn’t centered on making food, enjoying it, drinking good wine, and talking about more food and wine.

Superb Bowl Party Snacks

By now, you’ve been inundated with many great ideas for Super Bowl food.  Some follow traditional Game Day menus – chili, chicken wings, potato skins and such.  Others tend to the lower calorie – herbed yogurt dips for veggies, vegetable pizza made with broccoli, and salsa with baked chips.

trail mix, fruit and nuts, Super Bowl snacks

Although I’m fine with all those options, I propose that you veer way off course for at least a few of your Super Bowl snacks.  How about fruits and nuts?  Sure they may bring derisive sneers from the fast food-only crowd.  But, you’re tough enough to take a bit of ribbing, right?  On the plus side, you may earn high marks from your foodie friends and those who take a dim view of the tried-and-true snacks.  Besides, you may like these snacks.
